This work begins with the familiar anticipation of unboxing a record. The cover, the inner sleeve, the label, the price sticker, the barcode. Every detail has been carefully recreated to echo the packaging of a real vinyl record, inviting the viewer to engage with the piece as though they are opening something newly purchased and treasured.
Handmade from recycled and repurposed materials, each element has been individually constructed and finished by hand, giving the work the imperfections and tactile qualities of an object made rather than manufactured.
But the final reveal is not a record as expected. Instead, the viewer discovers a sheet of mirrored acrylic mounted onto a recycled vinyl record and, in place of music, they encounter their own reflection.
Across the mirror, the words “DON’T LET THE BASTARDS GRIND YOU DOWN” have been sprayed to create a frosted, worn surface. Resin droplets scatter across the acrylic, resembling condensation, water and steam caught on a bathroom mirror.
